Don't get me wrong, my current mattress has served me well over the years, with its memory foam layer to minimize movement, so myself and my husband don't disturb each other during the night (he's a restless sleeper). But the top layer has become pilled and is slightly sagging which creates ridges under my sheets. I've also found it to be very warm (even on cool nights), and it's no longer as supportive as it was when new, which is causing me to wake with aches and pains on a regular basis.
With that in mind, I've had my eye on some of the best mattresses and been pondering which are worth parting with (quite a lot of) cash for. After all, mattresses are a substantial purchase, and you want them to last, so choosing well is crucial for long-lasting quality sleep.
So, when I heard about Sleep Number's smart beds I wondered if their cooling and customisable mattresses could be the answer to my night-time woes. And, with the premium C4 mattress currently on sale with $300 off, I'm seriously considering making the switch.
Why I'm considering the Sleep Number c4 mattress
While Sleep Number didn't make this cut in our best mattresses round-up, our former Sleep Editor, Emilia Hitching, did rate their products, saying 'Sleep Number is one of the best places to buy bedding for hot sleepers,' and she had particularly been eyeing up the mattresses for review to see how they performed against competitors.
Benefitting from adjustable firmness levels for each side – ideal if you and your partner have different sleep styles – and a ceramic cooling gel which draws away heat to actively cool you down as you sleep, Sleep Number mattresses certainly sound like a smart choice. They also feature Responsive air® technology, which means the mattress contours to your body shape, responding to your movements throughout the night. Clever stuff.
The mattresses come in at a range of price points, from around $1,500 to $12,700, so it can be hard to know how much it's worth spending. Personally, I was pleased to find the Sleep Number C4 mattress is part of the classic series, at the more affordable end of the scale, which feels like a good place to start, particularly if you don't have any chronic sleep problems. I'm lucky that I'm generally a good sleeper, but I do often wake with back ache and run hot on my current mattress.
The Sleep Number C4 mattress is the most premium in the classic range, offering superior cooling and pressure relief, with the maximum support level. One recent review said: 'Just got our C4 and it’s much better than the store-bought mattress we had. Finally have support and adjustable firmness.'
So, if, like me, you're looking for a premium product, without spending a fortune, and your priorities for sleep are support and cooling, this looks like a pretty sweet sale deal.
