Like an excited child on Christmas Eve, Manchester United fans are counting down the hours until they can wake up and watch Cristiano Ronaldo strut his stuff on the Old Trafford turf once again.
Signed from Juventus in the summer, Ronaldo will play for United for the first time since he left for Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.
The five-time Balon d’Or winner’s first game back will be against Newcastle United in a 3pm kick-off, meaning the game won’t be shown on television and only those inside the stadium will be able to see the return live.
In his first stint at the club, Ronaldo scored 118 goals and grabbed 54 assists and will surely add to that tally sooner rather than later.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his pre-match press conference on Friday confirmed that Ronaldo “will get on the pitch at some point, that's for sure,” raising the excitement levels across the fan-base to a fever-pitch.
Social media has been filled with optimism surrounding his return and fans reacted to the latest developments with glee.
Here’s what they had to say.
Solskjaer added in his press conference that it's been great having Ronaldo back at United and that the team are excited about him playing against Newcastle.
He said: "Everyone is very happy to have him back, the mood has been very good. We are looking forward to Saturday of course."
