'I'm just heartbroken' says owner of children's clothing shop forced to close after vandalism

A children's clothing shop owner has been left devastated after vandals cracked a window.

Sam Boffey, who runs Iris Bloom in Kirkby in Ashfield, was alerted to the incident on Monday morning, February 17, by a customer.

The front window pane of the store, in Kingsway, has been cracked but Ms Boffey has said nobody broke into the shop.

The 40 year old, of Kirkby in Ashfield, said: "I'm an independent shop, a small business, and I'm just trying to make a living.

"It shocks me that anyone would do this, I'm just heartbroken.

"After the incident we couldn't open on Monday. The damage was too extensive and I couldn't face being in the shop on my own.

"My customers have sent messages and called all wishing me the best. We've been running for eight years now.

"The police asked me if I've made any enemies or had any issues in the store recently, but we've never had any problems. Our customers love us and they are all so loyal."

Ms Boffey said she has suffered financially as she was not able to open on Monday.

Discussing the impact it has had on her, she added: "Things like this make you want to give up, set up online and do what everyone else does."

Ms Boffey says it is anticipated that it could be as much as eight weeks before a replacement window can be put in place.

She has informed police of the incident., but states that she was asked by officers, to view neigbouring shops' CCTV and 'let them know' if she found any information.

Detective Chief Inspector Kev Broadhead, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Nottinghamshire Police deals with a high volume of incidents and every report is important to us. However, there are times where priority has to be given to those cases which have the best chance of being solved based on the strength of the evidence available.

“We do routinely ask victims of crime about what other information may be available to give us every opportunity to identify those responsible. As a result of the initial report, the local Neighbourhood Policing Team has made a number of enquiries in the area and those enquiries are ongoing.

“I would encourage anyone who has any information which could help our investigation, to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.”
