A woman has gone viral on TikTok after sharing how a Kroger gas station attendant embarrassed her. In the clip, Asia Donerella (@asiadonerella) begins by explaining that she is an unhoused single mother. After a morning working as a DoorDash driver, she explained that she had approximately $7 left.
So, when she went to the Kroger gas station, Donerella said that she asked the attendant to put $7.62 on her pump. While she rolls her eyes, the attendant puts on $7.52 instead. When the TikToker pointed this out, she claimed the attendant, who was using the loudspeaker during the transaction, “chuckle[d] to herself” as she changed it.
“I’ve never been so humiliated in my life,” Donerella said. To make matters worse, the man behind her in the line told the attendant that he wanted to put $30 on her pump.
The DoorDash driver was ‘in tears’
To raise a complaint, Donerella asked for the attendant’s name and card. By the time she got to customer services, the TikToker said she was “in tears.”
“Every day I get up and I try my best,” the DoorDash driver told viewers.
The manager told her that she would have “a word” with the employee. However, for Donerella, this wasn’t sufficient. She ended up going to human resources, who gave her store credits.
“I do not ever in my life want to shop at Kroger again,” she declared. “I refuse to support a business who has customers and managers that have no empathy, no type of sentiment, that don’t care what comes out of their mouth, [and] they don’t care to make sure a customer is satisfied when they leave the [expletive] store.”
Saying she was “blatantly disrespected and humiliated in front of other people,” she named the specific store and store attendant, and advised others to stay away. The video has amassed 334,100 views.
@asiadonerella Humiliation is a horrible feeling. Where is the HUMILITY at your business @Kroger .. is that what you all stand for?????? CHECK your employees and managers. You don’t know what your customers are going through IN REAL LIFE. What if this was my 13th reason??? #kroger #customerservice #singlemom #judgement #unacceptable #badbusiness ♬ original sound – Asiadonerella?
Commenters empathized
One commenter could relate to Donerella’s struggle, writing, “Girl, I had a $1 in my account and used it to overdraft to fill my tank until pay day,” they wrote. “People who act like that are suffering as well and feel superior when they see someone doing slightly worst than them. Keep going and hopefully Kina lose her damn job.”
Another was empathetic to her situation and advised her to call corporate. “Call corporate and report that person, they will be out of a job,” they said. “I work for a Kroger affiliate and they do not play that [expletive] at all.. she doing too much and it’s not her business mind you.. she could’ve used a store card to give you a little discount on the gas.. take your receipt and call corporate!”
Meanwhile, a third suggested getting even. “And I say for anyone that can get out to that location depending on if they can if you can pinpoint or if you see that badge if it’s the same lady then I would ask for $7.62 of gas everybody so that she can realize that everybody don’t possibly have it and it ain’t easy and you never know what somebody’s going through,” they said.
