Marcelo Bielsa has been hailed as 'a managerial icon' by his opposite number at Guiseley following Leeds United's 2-1 pre-season victory at Nethermoor Park on Thursday.
Second-half goals from debutant Helder Costa and Mateusz Bogusz ensured that the Whites kept their perfect warm-up record intact ahead of the 2019-20 campaign as they followed up Wednesday's 5-0 thrashing of York with another win.
United fielded a team that featured a mix of first-team players and academy youngsters, with Kalvin Phillips marking his first run-out for the club since speculation mounted over a move to the Premier League.
Their efforts proved to be enough to cancel out Kaine Felix's early strike in a well-fought match and Lions co-manager Marcus Bignot was filled with effusive praise for his visitors after the match, singling out their boss for his humility in what could have been a theoretical mismatch between the Championship side and their National League North hosts.
"I’m absolutely delighted with our performance," the former Queens Park Rangers man stated. "Leeds took this game seriously, it was a really good occasion for us all.
"After the game, Bielsa sent his interpreter to thank us for a good game. I’m in heaven.
"He is a managerial icon. His interpreter asked what league we are in. When we said the National League, Marcelo shook his head & pointed up. He‘s impressed."
Leeds will now head to Australia for their pre-season tour, with games against Manchester United and Western Sydney Wanderers next week in Perth and New South Wales respectively.
