'I'm happily gonna take the fine' - striker punished after making Liverpool gesture in training

Adebayo Akinfenwa has happily accepted a club fine after turning up for training at Wycombe Wanderers while wearing a Liverpool shirt.

Akinfenwa wore the top on Friday after Jurgen Klopp's side were confirmed champions the previous night when nearest rivals Manchester City lost at Chelsea.

The Wycombe forward is a well-known Liverpool fan and scored against his boyhood club when playing for Wimbledon in an FA Cup defeat in January 2015.

Wycombe are preparing for the first leg of their League One play-off tie against Fleetwood Town, which takes place on Friday.

And Akinfenwa said he had informed boss Gareth Ainsworth of his tribute to Liverpool, which wasn't met with universal approval from his team-mates.

"I'm happily gonna take the fine!" he said, speaking on a video on Instagram that revealed some of the Wycombe players laughing and shaking their heads in mock disgust.

"I've already paid my gaffer, he knows.

"There's a lot of hate I'm getting today, a lot of hate! But it's cool, man, I'll take it."

Liverpool won the league championship - the 19th in their history - with a record seven games to spare after accumulating an astonishing 86 points out of 93 from their 31 games so far.
