'I'm glad for him' - Tom Cleverley names the most underrated Manchester United midfielder

Former Manchester United player Tom Cleverley has named Fred as the most underrated midfielder at the club.

Fred was a regular starter with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in charge, but he's been used relatively sparingly since the appointment of Erik ten Hag and he's been given just 10 starts in the Premier League this season.

Although Fred made five consecutive league starts through February and March, he's recently been moved to the bench again, with Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes being preferred since the international break.

However, Cleverley feels he should perhaps be starting more, as he's identified Fred as an underrated player at Old Trafford.

"Martinez and Casemiro have been great signings and Eriksen before he got injured. I love watching their midfield and I'm really pleased that Fred is coming good," Cleverley told the Man United Scandinavian Supporters' Club.

"It's a good midfield to watch. There's good balance in the team now, to have that one defensive player [Casemiro] who is world-class as well as Bruno, Fred, Eriksen and McTominay, they've created a balance between being defensively solid and creative

"I think the problem has been solved and Casemiro has been massive in that. Yeah, massively [Fred underrated], within that dressing room Fred will have for sure a lot more respect than he does in the outside football world.

"Hopefully that's all that matters to Fred personally, I think a lot of people can see what he does without the ball, the intensity he plays at and I'm glad that he's been able to add some goals to that now, to get the recognition he deserves."

Fred signed for the club in the summer of 2018 and he's made 200 United appearances.
