I’m fine being single, until I watch ‘Nobody Wants This’

Being perpetually single is okay for most of the time. You kind of get used to doing what you want and not really having anyone to worry about. But then there are moments where you do long for companionship. Like when I’m watching Nobody Wants This.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix series just hit streaming and while I waited to start it, I was yet again reminded by this show that being single does suck at times. Did I love seeing Kristen Bell’s Joanne lying on top of Adam Brody’s Noah as they watched television? Yes. Is the openness that the two have between each other something I long for? Of course.

And watching season 2 has reminded me that sometimes it does suck being single. I don’t want to always be the girl who doesn’t get a plus one or shows up in a costume that is just for me. Nobody Wants This made me, in fact, want that kind of love that Noah and Joanne has and oh boy is this a fun place to be when we’re starting cuffing season.

The thing is that a “rom-com” does make you want to fall in love. But often, you know what you do and don’t want out of the elements presented to you in that specific story. With Nobody Wants This, the show really highlights the good and bad in dating in a way that makes me yearn for that kind of connection in my life. Who can I call to complain about this?

It is a beautiful kind of love story…but also can I just fall in love?

What really works about Nobody Wants This is the show’s ability to show how neither of these people are perfect. In season 2, Noah does a lot of things that he deems as “romantic” because that’s what he’s always done for the women in his life. And Joanne has to teach him how to be romantic for her and not just in the broad sense of the word “romance.”

But Joanne also gets in her own way and lets her insecurities drive her. The two get into little back and forths that they didn’t need to and it is refreshing to see a show that allows their characters to make mistakes within a relationship but doesn’t allow said mistake to ruin everything. It is very grown up and sweet and God, again, I’m begging for a boyfriend to let me watch Love Is Blind alone on Valentine’s Day as a sweet gesture.

There’s just a lot about this show that makes me realize that maybe the part of my brain telling me I’m okay with being single is just justifying it. But then shows like Nobody Wants This remind me that I’d love nothing more than for a cute guy like Adam Brody to make me his entire world.

So if you want to fall in love and cry about your own lack of dating, make sure you’re watching Nobody Wants This.
