'I'm confident!' - Manchester United fans issue Boubacar Kamara transfer plea following update

Manchester United are plotting a January transfer window swoop for a new defensive-minded midfielder, the Manchester Evening News understands.

United, who will be hoping to resume their Premier League campaign on December 27 against Newcastle United at St James' Park, have often been told that they have lacked a world-class holding midfielder in the past year or so, with it often having been an area of the team that has attracted widespread criticism.

United were linked with an array of names during the summer transfer window, including West Ham United star Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund.

However, the club's big-money additions of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo put pay to any hopes of adding a new midfielder to their armoury.

However, the Manchester Evening News understands that United are prepared to back interim manager Ralf Rangnick in next month's transfer window and help him try and bring a new holding midfielder to Old Trafford.

RB Leipzig midfielder RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara has become of interest to United in recent weeks because of Rangnick's ties with the German club. However, Haidara is poised to be off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Mali next month, meaning it remains to be seen if United will make a move for his services.

United already have a wealth of midfielders on their books, but a defensive combination of Scott McTominay and Fred has been the way forward for much of this term.

Despite their recent good performances, a number of supporters have grown frustrated with the pair of them working alongside each other, with many demanding a change.

The news that United are going to pursue a January move for a new midfielder has now promoted a number of supporters to share their opinions on who they would like to see join the club, with Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara and Haidara attracting plenty of attention.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what United's supporters have been saying on social media.

As you can see from the tweets above, there is a real clamour from a number of United supporters for Kamara. The 22-year-old is out-of-contract at the Ligue 1 club next summer, meaning he will soon be available to sign on a pre-contract agreement for any non-French club.

The midfielder is considered to have a very bright future ahead of himself and United's supporters, it would appear, are keen to see him make the switch to Old Trafford.
