'I'm chuffed to bits': Teenager scoops £120,000 after buying his first ever lottery ticket

A National Lottery winner is celebrating after he scooped a £120,000 prize after his five numbers came up.

Sam Lawton said he was having a soak in the bath when he decided to play the National Lottery for the first time last Tuesday.

And we was left 'gobsmacked' after matching the winning numbers 3, 20, 26, 27 and 32 on the new £1.50 Set for Life lottery game via a mobile phone app.

He will win £10,000 every month for the next 12 months and says he plans to spend the money on driving lessons, the deposit for a house and a holiday to New York with his 20-year-old partner Connie Bell.

Sam said he decided to play the new game, which involves matching five numbers and a 'Life Ball', after seeing fellow winner Dean Weymes, 24, on the TV last month.

He was able to celebrate his own win and cracked open a bottle champagne at a press conference at upmarket Coombe Abbey Hotel, in Coventry.

Sam, who lives in Warwickshire with HR worker Connie, and their one-year-old son, said: "It's just incredible.

"Nothing like this happens to me, I'm chuffed to bits.

"I'd seen the ads for the Set for Life game and thought how great it would be to win the prize.

"I then saw the winner Dean Weymes on the TV celebrating his Set for Life win and thought I'd have a go.

"I downloaded the National Lottery app, set up an account, put £10 into my account and then played a Lucky Dip and I did all this whilst having a bath.

"It was only one hour, maybe 90 minutes after I first played the when I saw a message on my phone and it said I had won the second prize, £10,000 per month for 12 months."

Not quite believing his eyes, he asked Connie to take a look. She had never played before either, so they called her brother Craig, who'd been playing the lottery for years.

"I sent him a screen grab of my phone screen and he said: 'On my way, don't move' and within five minutes, he was at the front door," Sam added.

"We all checked the tickets and sat there in disbelief wondering if it was true."

The family had a "sleepless night" then he got up for work as usual at 8am and called the National Lottery hotline to check if he'd won.

"And by 8.45am I was on my way home as a winner. My head was spinning, I needed to see Connie," he added.

"Work were great, they said 'Go.' It was so surreal, because a few of us had been talking about Set For Life the week before.

"We were saying what would we do if we won, and there I was a winner."

The couple popped into town to look at the shops after the win.

He said it still feels "quite unreal - the news really is still sinking in."

As he's not passed his driving test, he wants to get his driving licence and a BMW 1 Series.

"The win will allow me to learn to drive and get a car straight away - which is amazing," he added.
