FORMER Rangers defender Nikola Katic has credited Steven Gerrard as the inspiration for his career as he landed a dream move to Schalke.
The 28-year-old, who has been capped by both Croatia and Bosnia, spent four years at Ibrox, although he spent his final season on loan to Hajduk Split, before sealing a move to FC Zurich.
Katic has now landed a big move to fallen German giants Schalke, who were relegated to Bundesliga 2 a year ago.
He won a title under Gerrard at Rangers and admitted he loved working with the Liverpool icon in Glasgow.
Katic said: "I see myself as a leader and the reason for that is Steven Gerrard.
"I didn't see myself as a leader at all until I played under Gerrard.

"He insisted on me taking more responsibility during my time at Rangers when I played with him as manager. He made me a leader.
"I think that's one of my greatest qualities, both on and off the pitch. And I want to bring that to my new teammates as well.
"I am a physical player with a big heart. I always give my all, every day, in every training session. I will show commitment and passion to lead the team on the pitch.
"From the very beginning, the manager, Miron Muslic, said he wanted me. I worked with him when he signed me on loan at Plymouth Argyle too.
"It was an easy decision to sign for Schalke"
