When Colette Bowe, the incoming chair of Ofcom, was called in to give evidence to MPs today, she knew she would be quizzed about her TV viewing habits. When the inevitable question came, she laughed and said she had thought long and hard about whether to lie and claim she devoted all her time to watching serious drama and documentaries. Instead, she opted for the truth. "I watch an enormous amount of television but an awful lot of it's football – I spend a huge amount of my weekends watching football," she said. Bowe grew up in Liverpool and said she was a passionate fan, a "true Red". "You must watch Strictly Come Dancing?" one of the MPs asked, but Bowe said no, she was an X Factor person and had voted for Alexandra, who lives nearby in north London.
