'I'm a tattoo artist and I always tell clients to avoid certain design – it's bad luck'

Professional tattoo artists will be used to inking all manner of things on a person's skin, but that doesn't mean they're always happy about it. Now four tattooists have urged those planning on getting some new body art to avoid one all-too-common design in particular at all costs, warning that the "cursed" tat will only bring them bad luck.

The tattooists, who work at the award-winning Markd Tattoo in Sydney, Australia recently opened up about their strong distaste for this particular design in a recent TikTok video, and it may well be one you're eagerly considering at this very moment.

In a video shared via TikTok, where the tattoo parlour regularly shares content under the username @markdtattoo, the artists were asked what they really thought about people who get their partner's name inked on them. Turns out, they weren't keen at all.

One of the artists cautioned: "Oi don't, unless you've got kids, or are married. If not, it's bad luck."

The other advised: "It's a pretty bad idea. Here's the one I have, but it's my wife."

A third artist described the design as "taboo", while a fourth warned: "Don't do it. It's like a curse. You'll probably break up the next week if you do it. But if you've lasted then good on ya, but I wouldn't recommend it."

Those in the comments section shared their own stories of loved-up couple tattoos and there proved to be a real mix of good and bad outcomes.

One person wrote: "Nah, it's not a curse. My man got my name as his first tattoo after a year we've been together. We're married now, five years of being together. Bye."

Another revealed: "My mum got her ex's name and when they split she got a tattoo of a bird shitting on it because it was cheaper than getting it removed."

A third commented: "My dad got my ma's name and they got divorced so he got a coffin over her name."
