'I'm a stay-at-home wife - my husband has to pay me for 15 years if we get divorced'

While stereotypical gender roles in relationships have changed for many couples, some continue to adopt the traditional 'stay-at-home wife' set-up if it suits their dynamic. Having taken on the role since leaving work, a woman took to TikTok to admit that if husband divorces her, he'll have to pay for her for the next 15 years.

While the idea may initially seem controversial to some, people have rushed to praise the woman's 'genius' idea. She says the arrangement would compensate for the long gap in her CV should they ever divorce. The woman - who boasts more than 26,000 followers on TikTok account @lilinkqueen - shared a clip documenting the contract on the popular video-streaming platform.

Since sharing her video, the clip has surpassed a whopping 6.3 million views. The TikToker explained that she put the contract in place to make sure that she would never end up on the 'short end of the stick'.

She explained: "When I tell people I had my husband sign a contract agreeing that if I was to be a stay at home wife and he decided to divorce me."

"He would have to pay me for 15 years after the divorce settled to equate for my lack of work history," she added.

Captioning the post, the woman wrote: "I'll be damned if I ever ended up on the short end of the stick because he wanted the LUXURY of having me available 24/7."

Since posting, her video has raked in over 8,500 comments. Flocking to the comment section, people were keen to praise the idea - and even thought that it made 'perfect sense'.

One person wrote: "This is genius and should be normalised."

"Trying to get a job after ten years as a SAHM is a nightmare," a second admitted.

"YESSSSSSSSS," a third penned.

A fourth gushed: "AS YOU SHOULD!"

A different user said: "I'm a man and I think that makes perfect sense. Investors call this 'cost of opportunity'. You'll never be 25 again and have those opportunities."

On the other hand, a confused TikTok user questioned: "Why would anyone want to be a stay at home wife?!"
