I’m a Minimalist, But I'd Trade Bedrooms With Emma Roberts In a Heartbeat – It Proves the Inviting Charm of Layering Patterns With Color

Emma roberts.

When it comes to my sleep space, I've always liked to keep things simple. I've long believed that the key to a truly serene bedroom lies in a pared-back, comforting design that welcomes without overwhelming you.

While I've long followed minimalist decorating principles when designing my boudoir, I've come to the recent conclusion that playing it safe and keeping things simple isn't the only way to make your bedroom feel relaxing and welcoming.

I never thought a maximalist bedroom could be both homely and serene, but after seeing Emma Roberts' enviably inviting space, I'm rethinking all my usual decorating methods. Featuring layers of whimsical patterns, earthy tones, and plenty of antique decor, it's a lesson in embracing the eclectic and honoring the designs of the past.

Emma's bedroom might not be for everyone, but it's an impressive example of how to mix patterns fearlessly. Featuring traditional prints mixed with earthy tones, the boudoir is maximalism at its best; it feels exciting yet not overwhelming. While the room is filled with one-of-a-kind treasures, its artful layers of pattern and color couldn't be easier to pull inspiration from.

Emma's sleep space is an undeniably vintage bedroom. Featuring traditional florals (the rose-printed drapes and matching headboard set the tone of the space) mixed with subtle, daintier patterns like plaid and a block-printed throw, it's a lesson in layering prints artfully. While some might think opting for a retro floral could be a little overkill, the matching headboard and drapes seamlessly connect, creating a cozy backdrop that frames the sleeping area.

The earthy tones only add to the room's warmth. From the mustard-toned duvet cover to the thoughtful burgundy touches scattered on top, these deep shades only enrich the space. Balanced by the pale pink pillowcases, the bed is the perfect fusion of light and dark.

Let's not forget about the antique furniture. The dark wooden bedside tables add to the country bedroom feel, enriching the space with even more warmth. Paired with the decadent fringed lamps that bring an elevated feel, the bedroom brings both the glamour and charm of the past into the present day.

While I once thought that minimalism was the only way to design a bedroom, Emma's sleep space has proven to me that the opposite end of the spectrum can be refreshingly inspiring and just as accomplished.
