Brute beat woman in sickening attacks then fled back to live with his mum in £1.3m townhouse

A brute battered a woman and told her 'you shouldn't f*** with a London man', a court heard.

Pedro Oliveira would boast to his victim about being born and brought up in the south of England during his violent rages against her. A judge said he 'made her life a misery' and 'regarded her as no more than a punch bag'.

During one incident, the 28-year-old engineer repeatedly slammed the woman's head against the floor of her home in Stalybridge, Minshull Street Crown Court was told. In another instance, he texted her when she was at home and gave her a chilling countdown before kicking down her front door.

The victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was left with 26 different injuries, including cuts and bruising to her ears, cheekbones, jaw, arms and lower legs. In her victim impact statement, she said she was assaulted over 50 times in four years.

Charlotte Rimmer, prosecuting said: "During an argument the defendant called her a 'dumb wh**e', a 'stupid b***h', a 'ret**d' and said that she had nothing on him. She later recorded him calling her bipolar and a freak."

Ms Rimmer said that on one evening: "He had consumed most of a bottle of Jack Daniels. The defendant, heavily intoxicated at this point, had begun to get angry and an argument broke out between the two.

"The defendant then stormed outside and shouted that he 'was a Londoner and that you just don't f**k with people from London'.

"Whilst the defendant was outside, she tried to call 999 but the dial took too long and hadn’t connected her with the operator in time before the defendant came back into the house. She had hid behind a door when the defendant came in and proceeded to bang her head four to five times against a wall and called her a 'stupid b**ch' and a 'stupid whale'.

"He broke her glasses in the process. She again tried to call the police but was unsuccessful and had sustained bruises to her shoulders and a swollen jaw from the defendant’s abuse.

"The next day the defendant texted her to say he was coming and on his way kept messaging her with countdowns to his arrival and said that he will enjoy knocking her door down. She locked the top lock on the front door and called the police in anticipation of his arrival.

"When he got to the house he was irate and threatening. The police arrived and arrested the defendant immediately but he continued to be irate."

The court was told how a PC tried to calm down Oliveira, but instead he called the officer a 'f***ing white pig', a c***, a 'white trash c***' and a 'pig'. When interviewed, Oliveira blamed the majority of the victim's injuries on her own illnesses.

Oliveira was charged with coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He denied any wrongdoing but was convicted after a trial. He had since moved in with his mother in a £1.3m property on a private road near Finsbury Park in Islington, a court heard.

In mitigation for the defendant, David Bruce said: "The fact that he has moved back to London and not engaged with the complainant shows he trying to move on with his life."

Sentencing him to 21 months in jail, Judge Bernadette Baxter told Oliveira, of Quill Street, London: "You were a bully and a brute and hit this lady at every opportunity. This all amounted to making her life a misery. Not at any point did you show any remorse for your actions, you have simply regarded her as no more than a punch bag."

Oliveira was also banned from contacting the victim for eight years under the terms of a restraining order.
