Gwyneth Paltrow is a world-famous actress and founder of the multi-million dollar lifestyle brand Goop; I am a 26-year-old writer living in a London flat-share. Needless to say, we are in slightly dissimilar financial positions.
Despite our differences, at the end of the day, Gwyneth and I both want luxury experiences at the best price possible - this is where the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Maker (available at Amazon) comes in.
I have been using the fabulous Dutch drip coffee maker for over two years, since I bought it from the previous residents of my flat (who had been using it for five years prior, might I add). Throughout that time, I raved to anyone who would listen about the quality and flavor of its beverages.
Since I spotted it in an Instagram video of Gwyneth Paltrow's morning routine, I was talking about it so much that I had to write about it.
This beautiful drip coffee maker is the exact same as the one Gwyneth uses in her kitchen. It's quiet, versatile, and stylish with gold certifications from both the Specialty Coffee Association and the European Coffee Brewing Center.
Given her propensity for luxury, I had always assumed that Gwyneth would opt for an ultra-high-end model (like Romeo Beckham's $6000 espresso machine or at least Brad Pitt's $1,800 coffee maker for her morning brews.
Although $360 is certainly still a splurge for the average person, it's a drop in the bucket compared to most luxury machines on the market. If you are a daily coffee drinker, I think the Moccamaster is worth it. If you're used to getting most of your coffee out at cafes, it will even pay for itself within a few months.
Apart from its placement in Gwyneth's kitchen, what makes the Technivorm Moccamaster so iconic?
First, it's exceedingly easy to use. Each morning when I want my coffee, all I have to do is add water to the chamber on the left and a filter and a few scoops of coffee grounds to the chamber on the right. Then, I press the button and let the machine do its magic.

This leads me to the next element that makes the Moccamaster so fabulous: it's the ultimate hack for making pour-over coffee at home. While I love a pour over, I can't wrap my head around the gooseneck kettle, pour over, and filter set up every morning. Luckily, the Moccamaster makes pour-over-style coffee in a drip machin,e blurring the line of distinction between pour-over vs drip coffee.
Their website explains: 'The Moccamaster is a “pour-over style” drip coffee maker because it recreates the same process automatically that a coffee lover would do manually, following the precise, scientific brewing standards defined by the European Coffee Brewing Center (ECBC) and Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).'
It continues: 'Rather than relying on a mechanical pump, natural percolation pushes the heated water through the Moccamaster brewer. As the water begins to boil, the first glugs trickle out slowly, allowing the coffee to bloom. As the water moves through the outlet arm and over the grounds, it creates the correct amount of agitation to fully extract the coffee solubles. Combined with carefully controlled water temperature and brewing time, the result is a perfect yield of coffee solubles in your final cup.'

Finally, I love the way the hot plate on the machine keeps the coffee warm all morning. I am a multiple cups kind of girl, and the Moccamaster means an 10am cup tastes the exact same as an 8am cup. If I don't use it all, I pour the coffee into a mason jar and put it in the fridge for next day iced coffee; it's just as good then.
