I'm A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher responds to 'rule break' accusations

A defiant Giovanna Fletcher has responded to accusations she 'broke the rules' during her time on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Just over a week has now passed since author and Instagram and podcast star Giovanna was crowned the ITV show's first ever Queen of the Castle, beating narrow bookies favourite Jordan North in last Friday's final.

Throughout the new series, which saw the contestants take up residence in Gwrych Castle, Giovanna and other campmates found themselves at the centre of rule break accusations over their secret, or not so secret, signals to their loved ones.

At the end of each episode of I'm A Celebrity, hosts Ant and Dec went into the stars' living quarters to announce the results of that night's public vote and it was Giovanna's gestures that drew the most attention as she put her thumb to her nose and wiggled her fingers whenever her name was mentioned and the camera focused on her.

Some unimpressed viewers said it was a blatant attempt to communicate with the outside world, while others defended Giovanna for letting her children know she was thinking of them.

Giovanna, wife of McFly member Tom Fletcher, finally addressed the accusations on Instagram over the weekend, when she posted: "Yes... I know it was clocked! I tried to find a discreet ‘signal’ with the boys so they knew I was thinking of them while I was away... They’re 6,4 and 2, so subtlety (like a little ear tug) wasn’t going to work on them.

"We decided to go big. I can’t tell you how much it meant when @antanddec started doing it back! It’s certainly the little things that get you in there!!"

Giovanna will be back on screen on Sunday night when Ant and Dec return to host I'm A Celebrity...A Castle Story, this year's take on the usual Coming Out show.
