I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers have criticised Beverley Callard for not revealing that she was vegan before taking part in her first Bushtucker trial.

During Tuesday night’s (17 November) show, the former Coronation Street star participated in the Frights of the Round Table challenge along with Vernon Kay and Jordan North.

During the challenge, the campmates each had to eat a number of disgusting dishes while sat around a spinning table.

However, while North and Kay ate the usual I’m a Celebrity faves of animal penis, brain and testicles, Ant and Dec declared that as Callard was a vegan, she would instead be given meat-free dishes, instead eating vomit fruit, fermented plums and fermented tofu.

This sparked a mixed response from viewers on Twitter, with some claiming that it was unfair Callard could avoid eating animal products like her fellow campmates. Many also said that they wouldn’t have voted for the 63-year-old actor to take part in an eating challenge if they’d known she was vegan.

“Why was that eating challenge the first time we heard that Bev is vegan,” one viewer wrote.

“They did not warn us that Bev was a vegan… we wouldn’t of [sic] voted for her otherwise,” another commenter tweeted. “I wanna see people squirming on sheep’s testicles, not grass.”

However, some viewers praised Callard for sticking to her guns, especially after admitting that she’d “only been vegan since March”.

“Beverley Callard is the vegan queen we need,” one fan commented, while another wrote: “I didn't know Beverley Callard is a vegan! That's awesome.”

Vernon Kay also confirmed that the vegan dishes were not have been the easy option viewers thought them to be, commenting that he’d rather eat “c*** and balls” after smelling the fermented tofu.

The three contestants still managed to take home the maximum ten meals to camp.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs nightly at 9pm on ITV.
