I’m A Celebrity: Stars evacuated from jungle camp as heavy storm in Australia cuts power

I’m A Celebrity stars have been evacuated from their jungle camp in Australia after severe storms cut power.

Participants on the ITV show were forced to take shelter in the Bush Telegraph and crew had to take down cameras and lighting as torrential rain poured into the base.

The show’s producers were under pressure to edit the show in time for Sunday night’s broadcast at 9pm.

An ITV source told The Mirror: “We are used to storms here but I have never seen anything like this.

“This is affecting lights, camera and the action in camp. We had to think of the safety of the celebs so they are taking shelter in the Bush Telegraph.

“We hope it will pass quickly but then there will be a clean-up operation and we will need to restore power to the cameras as soon as possible so we don’t miss any action.”

Executive producer Tom Gould said: “It was the wettest dry run we’ve ever had. In the whole time I’ve been in Australia, I’ve never seen anything like it.

“It did not stop raining. It didn’t flood but it was horrible and the creek was really high… It was genuinely scary. It was scary for even some of the crew.”

He added it had been a “really tough few days” trying to film in exposed areas of the jungle in torrential rain.

The Australian Government’s Bureau of Meteorology have issued a statement confirming the storms have passed but the situation continues to be monitored and further warnings may be issued if necessary.
