"Having grown up with Aaron we have all cried, laughed, felt his heartbreak and sadness as Danny has portrayed some of the shows toughest storylines and I hope you agree he has done them justice.

"Cast and crew have become like a second family to Danny and as the video says he can’t thank them enough, but most importantly he would like to thank Aaron fans for sharing the journey with Danny and Aaron for all these years.

"And here’s hoping we see Danny back on our screens soon after the show doing what he loves most. Goodbye for now Aaron Dingle."

In the video which was posted to Emmerdale official social media accounts Danny explained that he'd had to "pull over" after leaving the farm because he had become so overwhelmed with emotion after saying goodbye to his former colleagues.

In tears and speaking on camera he said: "So guys that is a wrap for the day, a wrap on Aaron and a wrap on Danny.

"You're just going to have to bare with me because I'll probably blubber my way through this.

"If you've finished watching the episode then you're probably bored of me already but it has been a very emotional day and this place Emmerdale, the cast and crew have been particularly amazing for me."

The dad-of-one went on: "I've learnt so much here and I've made so many life-long friends here and I already miss them."

Turning the camera to show his surroundings, the actor added: "I don't know if you can see that?

"But I've literally had to pull over as I've left the village because it was just quite an emotional day for us."

The video was taken after Danny had filmed his final scene at Emmerdale but before he'd entered I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
