I'm A Celebrity's Victoria Derbyshire reveals how she convinced BBC to let her do ITV show

Victoria Derbyshire has revealed that the BBC didn't want her to take part in I'm A Celebrity.

But the presenter and journalist managed to convince them to let her do the ITV show.

Victoria, from Bury, was one of 12 celebrities to take part in the first ever UK-based I'm A Celeb which took place for three weeks at Gwrych Castle in north Wales.

Speaking to the Sunday Times magazine, Victoria recalled the conversation she had with head of BBC News Fran Unsworth and what she said to change the BBC's mind.

"I said, 'I'll take unpaid leave. I'm not going to cross any lines of impartiality. I'm not going to bring the BBC into disrepute," she said.

"But the area where Fran conceded was when I argued that BBC News wants to attract diverse, young, less affluent people and this is the show they all watch."

It is also the one show she wanted to do to impress her family.

It's one of the only things we watch together as a family apart from [Strictly Come Dancing]," Victoria said.

"They thought I'd be really good at the trials because they know I get stuck in, but most of all they love the fact I was in it because all their mates watch."

Victoria left the show with Corrie icon Beverly Callard in fourth and fifth place.

The series, which ended earlier this month, was eventually won by Giovanna Fletcher making her the first ever Queen of the Castle.

She pipped Radio 1 DJ Jordan North and Bolton's Vernon Kay to the top spot after more than 12 million votes were cast.
