I'm A Celebrity's Vernon Kay says he's 'wasting away' as campmates notice his weight loss

The camp are feeling the effects of the castle diet on I'm A Celebrity, and Vernon Kay thinks he's 'wasting away.'

The celeb campers are living on rice and beans on the ITV reality show while taking part in gruesome challenges to win their evening meals, and they have appeared hard to stomach at times.

These have included squirrel, pigeon and eel.

The food in camp is reportedly worked out by nutritionists to make sure the campmates are getting enough calories in the cold in Wales so they don't burn out.

Bolton TV presenter Vernon has noticed weight loss since the show launch back on November 15 and it hasn't gone unnoticed by his new friends at Gwyrch Castle.

Giovanna Fletcher and Jessica Plummer said they think Vernon is looking 'really narrow.'

Talking in the Telegraph former Family Fortunes host Vernon said: “I look in the mirror and I’m like 'come on, I'm wasting away' but it is what it is."

The dad of two, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, says he'll be sure to make up for the rice and beans when he gets out with extra helpings of festive treats.

"Christmas is around the corner," he said.

"It means I can have an extra portion of turkey, roast potatoes, broccoli, sprouts, carrots, turnips, swede, gravy, Yorkshire pudding Christmas pudding, custard … all of that."

In tonight's show the celebs said they felt tired, with EastEnders star Jessica commenting in the Telegraph: “The tiredness, the lack of energy has spread to the whole camp.”

To zhuzh their food up they mixed some banana from a previous dinner with their breakfast rice and enjoyed the extra flavour.

Vernon spoke out after Tess, 51, said she was worried about her husband 'not eating.'

Tess, who has two daughters Phoebe, 16, and 11-year-old Amber with Vernon, says she has barely slept since he entered camp on the ITV reality show over two weeks ago.

"Oh my goodness, it feels like he has been away forever," she said on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday.

"I think about him every moment of every day and I watch him every night.

"Yeah, he is doing brilliantly and it’s lovely watching him but it’s nerve-wracking, it really is.

"I worry about him being cold, about him not eating."

Tess added: "Honestly, I have barely slept. I don't think I have slept more than five or six hours since he has been in there."

She told Lorraine that their eldest daughter watches the show every night with her mum.

"Amber, who is 11, isn't allowed to stay up that late because obviously it is school nights a lot of the time," she said.

"They miss him, they haven't seen him for four and a half weeks now, because they were isolating for two weeks before going in."

Vernon has been quite the hit among viewers during his time in camp with many thinking he is this series hearthrob.
