I'm A Celebrity's Vernon Kay's 'tough' isolation in Wales ahead of entering the castle

I'm A Celebrity's Vernon Kay has spoken about the 'tough' isolation he faced on his own in Wales ahead of the series starting.

The Bolton TV star made it to third place in the ITV reality show during the live final last Friday behind runner-up Jordan North and Queen of the Castle.

The trio spent just under three weeks at Gwynrch Castle, the home of I'm A Celeb 2020 in North Wales, Gwrych Castle.

But Vernon's wife Tess Daly revealed during the week of the final that her husband had actually been away for four and a half weeks before heading back to his family.

Speaking on This Morning, Vernon told host Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield he found an unlikely acquaintance during the lonely isolation period.

"I was on my own. There was myself and a security guard, and I saw the farmer every day. Nice guy," the 45-year-old said.

Vernon Kay has finally reunited with wife Tess Daly (Tess Daly Instagram)

"He would come and just stand outside, miles away, obviously socially distanced, and we just had a chat about stuff, and I would go running and then FaceTime the kids later on in the evening once they'd finish school."

But he said it was difficult being away from Tess and their two daughters Pheobe and Amber.

"That bit was quite tough but because I was on my own, it enabled me to prepare for what was to come apart from the cockroaches and the scorpions," he said.
