I'm a Celebrity's vegan Beverley Callard sparks debate after eating Jammie Dodger

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! fans have been left divided in a vegan debate after camp mate Beverley Callard tucked in to a Jammie Dodger.

The Coronation Street legend was over the moon when her fellow camp mates Russell Watson and Vernon Kay won the biscuits through the Castle Coins challenge.

"I've eaten a Jammy Dodger," she cheered.

The 63-year-old turned vegan in March and has been eating plant-based dishes at Gwrych Castle.

During the first revolting eating challenge, she ate fermented plums, tofu and vomit fruit.

So fans of the show were quick to check whether Jammie Dodgers were actually vegan-friendly, with many calling Beverley out.

One viewer tweeted: "Bev. Jammy dodger contains butter!"

Another said: "I am 100% sure Jammy Dodgers aren’t vegan Bev!!"

Celebs leave sweet messages for their loved ones at homes on their hats

"Are Jammy Dodgers Vegan though Bev?" Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw asked on Twitter.

But critics may be surprised to find out that the jam-filled biscuits are actually vegan.

In July, a dairy-free recipe change was announced by maker Burtons Biscuits, meaning the iconic snack was vegan again after adding milk protein in 2016.

Adding milk was part of an overhaul to see the sugar content reduced by 22 per cent, but vegans were not pleased and a change.org petition was launched.

In a post on their Instagram back in July, the company said: "THE MOMENT HAS ARRIVED. Our delicious, new Vegan-friendly Jammie Dodgers are coming to a store near you. Are you excited to try our new recipe? Tell us what you think in the comments."

"Lucky Bev knows Jammy Dodgers are now dairy free for vegans!!" said one fan.

If anyone was wondering: yes Jammie Dodgers are vegan," said another.

"Jammie Dodgers have been vegan for a few months now," added another.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! continues every evening on ITV1.
