I'm A Celebrity's Ruthie Henshall once dated Prince Edward and dazzled Broadway

I'm A Celebrity newcomer Ruthie Henshall is best known for being a leading lady of theatre but things may have been very different for the star as she once dated a royal!

After plenty of rumours linking her to an appearance on the new series, Ant and Dec confirmed that Ruthie would be going into the show as a new arrival alongside opera singer Russell Watson.

The duo will be seen on screen for the first time on Wednesday night when they surprise the existing celebs by taking on the Stage Fright trial - a firm nod to their performing backgrounds and, if cynical viewers are to be believed, Shane Richie already knew it was them who'd be doing it.

While she hasn't been seen on The Crown, don't completely rule out an appearance for Ruthie in future series of the hit Netflix drama as she once dated Prince Edward.

As rumours swirled about her being on the show, insiders claimed Ruthie is a particularly exciting signing for I’m A Celebrity as viewers will want to see if she divulges any gossip on her relationship with Prince Edward.

About her royal liaison, Ruthie said: "I have no idea whether they watch (I'm A Celeb) or not.

"But I am sure they enjoy reality TV as much as the rest of us! I'm really looking forward to going in."

Ruthie, who made her West End tribute in Cats in 1987, has also wowed crowds on Broadway too, heading to New York twice to tread the boards in Chicago, firstly as Velma Kelly and then as Roxie Hart.

After a delayed start on Tuesday night due to the new series of Phillip Schofield's How To Spend It Well at Christmas, I'm A Celebrity will be back in its usual 9pm slot on Wednesday.
