I'm A Celebrity's Mike Tindall accused of 'demeaning' the Royal Family as friend defends him

Mike Tindall had been accused of ‘demeaning the Royal family’ after ‘over sharing’ on a embarrassing moment involving Princess Anne and having a dig at politicians on I’m A Celebrity.

The rugby star and husband of Zara Phillips having his name linked with an appearance in the new series, was enough to shock plenty of oriole, so eyebrows were raised when Mike’s name appeared on the confirmed line-up for I’m A Celebrity, before the show returned to screens earlier this month. It was reported that ITV bosses were hopeful that Mike would ‘spill’ some royal secrets to his camp mates and, after staying rather tight-lipped in the first week, he disclosed an embarrassing moment involving him and Princess Anne earlier this week.

Talking about his habit for splitting suits he wears, Mike recalled a time when he ripped his trousers when doing a sl*t drop in front of his mother in law at wife Zara’s birthday party. And then on Tuesday, Mike ‘broke royal protocol’ when he launched a rant against politicians, with politics an issue members of the Royal Family are meant to stay impartial on.

His actions were debated on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain when Michael Cole, a former BBC royal correspondent, criticized his actions, saying: "Look he’s a nice guy....but what on earth is he doing demeaning himself and diminishing the royal family by being on this show?"

Michael added that if was his opinion that Princess Anne ‘wouldn’t welcome’ Mike’s story before condemning his for his rant against politicians, commenting “He made a very pointed political remark,” adding: “That’s royal commentary isn’t it. The royal family and politics do not mix. Why can’t he, if he wanted to do a job, do an honest job, be a coach or something.”

However. Mike’s friend and former I’m A Celebrity contestant James Haskell defended him, saying: “I think what he's done is draw a bit of a curtain back, said something really funny and humanise Princess Anne, who has got an amazing sense of humour. He's not a working royal, Zara's not a working royal. He's entitled to do what he wants to do.”
