I'm A Celebrity's Matt Hancock places third and just misses out on final two

Matt Hancock has come third on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.

The former Health Secretary just missed out on the final of the ITV show, and Jill Scott and Owen Warner will go head to head to be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle. The Tory MP said goodbye to the final two and headed up to the studio to speak to hosts Ant and Dec about their experiences.

The 44-year-old lasted 21 days in the jungle, and outlasted the likes of Boy George, Mike Tindall and Chris Moyles.

Despite predictions he would leave straight away, and also a petition for him to be removed from the show, he made it all the way to the end which didn't go down well with the majority of viewers.

Speaking to Ant and Dec, he said: "I just wanted to show I'm like as a person, and I wanted to be myself politicians as a whole don't come across human enough and we managed to talk about important things in there."

He added: "When I first walked in it was just Seann and it was wonderful, and when we walked into main camp and I carry expectations that people think they know me from TV and media."

When asked about being grilled by his campmates, he said: "I was expecting to be grilled, some where enjoyable cause I could say what I thought and some were emotional. One things I'm grateful for was we had really grown up conversations about it, there wasn't any agro, it was really grown up.

"I know it was controversial me coming here but we're all human and we've all got different sides to our personalities. I just went in being clear that I was going to be myself."

Matt and Gina were reunited (ITV grab)

Following his exit, he was met by his girlfriend Gina Coladangelo on the famous I'm A Celebrity bridge and the pair shared a kiss and hug.

It comes after all three of the finalists - Owen, Jill and Matt - shared their shock at making it to the top three.

Owen said he loved the experience but was so excited to speak to his family. He said: "I’m in the final baby! What is going on? I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to think... I want to speak to my mum.”

Lioness Jill also said making it to the final "meant the world" to her. She said: "When I first stepped into the jungle and looked around at all of the celebrities, no way am I getting anywhere near that final. To be part of the final three with Owen and Matt, god, it just means the world, it really does."

Tory MP Matt Hancock also said that he was "grateful" to make it into the show's final. Adding: "I can’t believe I’m in the final. It’s brilliant… I’m just so grateful."

To win their last meal, the remaining three took part in the last Bushtucker trial called 'rat race'.

Jill had to spin stars with her tongue to release them from a pole with over 100 rats and 1000 maggots in a box beside her. She won all her stars.

Owen then had to win the campmate's main courses in the Bushtucker Bonanza where he had to eat five dishes. He had to eat, fermented egg, beach worms, camel's testicle and eye, scorpion and bull's penis. He won all his stars.

Matt then had to take part in 'Flood your face' to win the camp dessert for the evening. The trial meant he had to put his face in a tank for five minutes with a snorkel but he would not be alone. He was joined by snakes, eels, toads and spiders. He successfully collected all his stars - meaning the three finalists would eat well for their last meal.

The show returned to Australia this year for the first time in three years owing to the coronavirus pandemic. The show had to be held in a castle in North Wales amid the pandemic which halted travelling between different countries, with Giovanna Fletcher and Danny Miller being crowned Queen and King of the Jungle respectively across the two UK-based series.
