I'm A Celebrity returns with stars forced to make 'horrible' decision

I'm A Celebrity returns to ITV screens this evening after a break for the weekend. The spin-off 'All Star' edition filmed in South Africa is set to make history tonight with contestants asked for the first time ever to decide who goes home for good.

The pre-recorded series sees a number of memorable campmates return to battle it out in an all-new competition. The previously seen campmates have been whisked off to the new setting of Kruger National Park, instead of the Australian jungle, and with no public vote, they will be competing against each other in a number of challenges before the last person standing is given 'Legend' status.

After five nights of action on ITV, viewers watched as Coronation Street star Andy Whyment, cricketer Phil Tufnell and Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder all took part in the first survival trial.

But there was a twist and all three had to pick another celeb to team-up with and the losing pair had to leave home for good. Shaun, 60, who took part in the 2010 series of I'm A Celeb, had viewers and his campmates in stitches when he revealed that he had chosen nutritionist Gillian McKeith, who he famously locked horns with when they were in the Australian jungle together.

The pair later came in last place and fans were convinced Shaun deliberately picked Gillian as he wanted to go home, while also saving his other campmates from the axe, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, after the first exit of the series, I'm A Celeb fans were left without any more action from the South African bush as the series disappeared from ITV's schedule over the weekend. The show's hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly were still on television on Saturday night as Britain's Got Talent continued with the audition stages.

And the usual 9pm slot was filled by The 1% Club and on Sunday night, the prime timeslot was filled by the second part of ITV's new medical drama Malpractice.

But I'm A Celeb will be back on Monday night (May 1) and there's a huge twist. Ant and Dec will be seen announcing to the shocked campmates that it will be them who will vote to decide who is leaving next for the first time in the show’s two-decade history. At the end of Monday’s episode, Dec says: "We bring news. For one of you, this will be your last night in camp. But this time, who that is, is up to you."

It will mark the first time in the history of the show that the campmates have chosen who exits. Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman says: “Oh no, that’s horrible,” while former royal butler Paul Burrell adds: "That’s not nice."

It comes after foes turned friends Gillian and Shaun are now "more than buds" according to the Happy Mondays singer. The pair appeared on Monday morning's episode of Lorraine on ITV having been booted off the jungle show.

Stand-in host Ranvir Singh commented on the pair's closeness and said they looked like more than mates. Bringing up their former row, Shaun explained: "I never had a rift really." Ranvir replied: "Oh, c'mon."

Gillian laughed: "Now we're like buds." To which Shaun cheekily responded: "We're more than buds come on."

"Now I feel like a gooseberry," Ranvir responded. Host Ranvir then brought up Gillian's contraband controversy, after she snuck in spices and almonds.
