I'm A Celebrity recap episode slammed by viewers for 'ruining' Saturday night

Surprised I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here viewers were left fuming on Saturday night as they weren't given the show they were expecting.

After an action-packed episode on Friday night, which saw this year's campmates compete in a live trial, as well as Ruthie Henshall revealing all on her royal romance, fans were hoping for some more dramatics on Saturday as I'm A Celebrity went out at the slightly earlier time of 8.45pm.

But there was a shock in store for any viewers expecting footage from the goings on in Gwrych Castle over the past 24 hours as the show that went out was like a 'best of' of week one, with highlights packages, memorable moments from the new series so far and unseen footage, hosted in pre-recorded links by Ant and Dec.

Even the unseen footage, including a mass singalong led by Russell Watson, wasn't enough to impress viewers who were tuning in expecting to see the aftermath of Friday's trial.

One took to Twitter to rant: "Was soooo looking forward to #ImACeleb tonight & it’s just a recap show?!?!? It’s Saturday night! Where is the trials, bugs & drama?!"

Echoing those sentiments, another tweeted: "What a total let down! No live show?? Old footage of a week we've just watched?? What's going on? Time to turn off," and a third reacted: "what a terrible decision. Catch up show!!

"Just when we all need entertaining. Bad bad decision. One viewer lost here."

There was any amount of angry tweets about Saturday's episode, with another less than impressed I'm A Celeb fan commenting: "get me out of here!! Who wants recap c**p on a Saturday night Prime time, pass me the remote."

And, taking inspiration from that now iconic Come Dine With Me not so gracious loser moment, another viewer tweeted: "You won, ITV. You ruined our Saturday, so you could do a recap episode. Dear lord. What a sad little life."

However, others enjoyed the chance to see more comedic moments from the castle, including an insight into Beverley Callard's love of jagermeister, while another shut down fans who were complaining, posting: "This has been done for a reason, stop getting so angry.

"It’s been stated that saturdays will be recap episodes. This has most likely been done to give Ant and Dec a chance to sleep etc as trials are filmed late and they work up until 5am now too."
