I'm A Celebrity heads to Wales, ditching Oz, dingo dollars - and that sunshine - for the valleys

Geordie favourites Ant and Dec - and a string of big-name guests - will be packing their thermals as I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! prepares to film in Wales.

When news first broke that this year's show - the 20th series - would not be taking place in Australia it was what many viewers had expected, given the ongoing uncertainty over Covid-19, but its new choice of location - a ruined castle setting in the north of Wales - is set to prove a welcome surprise for viewers who will be extra keen to see how the celebrity action will pan out.

The switch from the usual heat of the Australian jungle to the more temperate climes around The Valleys will have a knock-on effect on the ITV series' famous Oz-theme challenges, with the staple 'bushtucker trials' given an overhaul and a newly-named crowning glory moment in store for the winner.

According to the report, the eating challenges in Wales will feature the likes of sheeps' testicles in place of kangaroo; the waterfall shower will be usurped by a 'tin tub' and the trial prizes will have the stars competing for such simple pleasures as hot water.

If the weather is extra-bad, the celebrities will be able to take shelter inside makeshift huts but they will be expected to wear their familiar jungle-style outfits, albeit with thermals underneath, waterproofing and added layers for warmth.

Jacqueline Jossa wows fans with her singing

And the show's ultimate title - which was won last year by Jaqueline Jossa - will go to the winning king or queen of the 'castle', not the jungle.

Also set to be ditched or rebranded are Aussie references such as the dingo dollar challenge.

But The Sun reports a source as promising that the upcoming new series will be as 'brilliant' as ever and, given the savings made from not having to travel to the other side of the world, it suggests it could afford to attract bigger name contestants than ever. Others will no doubt wonder whether those names will be willing to take part without the appeal of the Australian sun.

But, with Ant and Dec at the helm, the end-result is set to be the usual ratings winner for ITV.
