I'm A Celebrity: Gwrych Castle bosses thank show in heartfelt statement

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! crowned Danny Miller King of the Castle on Sunday night.

The Emmerdale star beat Frankie Bridge and Simon Gregson in the 2021 final, taking the title from 2020 winner Giovanna Fletcher.

Once again the series took part in Gwrych Castle in Abergele instead of the Australian jungle due to the "continued uncertainty" around Covid-19 and international travel.

The series was not smooth running, however, with the early exit of Richard Madeley after he broke the Covid-19 bubble due to a health scare and the evacuation of this year's line-up after Storm Arwen took the show off-air for three days.

And the pandemic and extreme weather conditions were addressed by Gwrych Castle bosses as they thanked I'm A Celebrity and ITV for hosting another series at the beautiful building.

Following the 2021 final, the castle released a statement that read: "We'd like to thank ITV and I'm A Celebrity for returning to Gwrych Castle for the second year in a row.

"It's not been an easy ride for yourselves with the pandemic and most recently the storm to deal with, but we'll be forever grateful for your support and hard work."

Restoration has been ongoing at the Grade I-listed country house, that was originally built by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh between 1812 and 1822, by The Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust.

However, becoming the unlikely star of I'm A Celebrity has really helped speed repairs up, as well as put the town of Abergele on the map. You can see what locals had to say when we spoke to them ahead of the series here.

In a separate message, castle bosses added: "It's been amazing to see Gwrych Castle lighting up the skies of North Wales once again! The community have been very supportive and its been amazing to see the buzz around town."

They also confirmed when the I'm A Celebrity castle would be open to the public again.

"Planning a visit to Gwrych Castle?" they wrote: "We will be reopening in Spring 2022."
