I'm a Celebrity fans notice same thing about Corrie's Simon Gregson as he reveals how he 'hates' fame

I'm A Celebrity favourite Simon Gregson had viewers noticing the same thing as he regaled his campmates with the story of how he became Steve McDonald in Corrie.

Simon, who has played Steve in Coronation Street since 1989, was asked about life as a soap star as the celebs sat around the campfire.

The soap legend told how he was 14 when he landed the role in the long-running soap.

He recalled: “I was 15 when I started filming, 14 when I got the job.

Simon shared his story of how he joined the soap (ITV)

"They went round loads of different schools in Manchester looking for two young lads to play the McDonald twins.

"And we were sat in assembly and they said there were people here from TV, which in 1989 was like ‘oh my god! no way!’.

"I was like 'I’m going to check this out.'"

Asked if he had ever wanted to play other characters he said: “No. I’ve never done anything but play Steve.

He was just 14 when he was picked for the role (Granada Television)

"It’s the only thing I’ve ever done. I wanted to join the military or race cars.”

Simon admitted that he found it hard to adjust to the fame side of playing Steve and still 'hates' that side of his career.

"It was difficult for a while to adjust. This isn’t what I planned for myself and I do not like it. I hated it. The fame side of it I hated it.

" I still don’t (like it).”

Fans loved his story and remarked how much Simon, 47, is like his comical character.

Before heading into the castle on I'm a Celeb Simon said he was looking forward to showing fans a side they might not have seen before.

"I think it will be nice for people who are fans of the show to see a different side," he said.

"How big a difference that side is yet to be seen! They might just be like 'oh my god, he's just like Steve!'"
