I'm A Celebrity could be left 'homeless' as deal to secure site is still up in the air

I'm A Celebrity could be left homeless as a deal to secure the site for future series is still up in the air.

The show has been filmed at Dungay Creek in Australia's Springbrook National Park since 2003.

Back in 2016, show bosses signed a three-year contract to retain the site but as the renewal deadline approaches Mirror Online can reveal a new deal has yet to be sorted.

An insider told us: "There's currently no news on whether the contract for the site is going to be extended.

"It's all very much up in the air."

It means the show's future at its longterm home remains in doubt, and could allow show bosses to change the location for upcoming series.

There has previously been speculation I'm A Celeb could be shifted to a location on the south coast when the current contract runs out.

Officials in Australia have been pushing for the show to be moved to Kangeroo Island to give the area a tourism boost.

South Australia's Agent General even wrote to ITV to ask them to consider shifting the set there.

The island is the country's third biggest, behind Tasmania and Melville, and a third of it is covered in national parks.

It also home to abundant wildlife including wallabies, possums, seals, koalas and penguins, and plenty of creepy crawlies to torment future jungle-bound celebrities.

However, it will be a massive task to move the site to a new location as much of the infrastructure remains in place all year round and the sets are just updated before every series starts.

It's also used for filming of international versions of the show so it's likely negotiations for a change of site will be long and complex.

Fans will have to wait and see whether I'm A Celeb stays puts or if there's going to be a major shake-up.

A representative for I'm A Celebrity has been contacted for comment.
