I'm A Celebrity: Carol Vorderman 'screamed' at TV during first episode as she shows support for Babatunde Aleshe

Carol Vorderman has revealed that she 'screamed' at her telly last night (November 6) during the revamped 'The Ledge' challenge on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here. A revamped version of the infamous 'Walk The Plank' challenge, three celebrities - Charlene White, Babatunde Aleshe, and Jill Scott - all faced 'The Ledge' last night, and were asked to step out onto a plank 33 storeys above the ground below.

But what the future campmates didn't know was that, once they were out on the very end of the plank, the rest of the plank would disappear from behind them, leaving them with the plinth they were standing on, plus a sloped ledge. Once all three celebrities were out on the plinths, they would be asked to let go of the rope behind them, causing them to fall off the ledge and hurtling towards the ground.

After Loose Women panellist Charlene reluctantly shuffled forwards out onto the plank, it disappeared from behind her. It was then Celebrity Gogglebox's Babatunde's turn to head out onto his plank. After taking a couple of steps and 45 minutes of deliberation, Babatunde headed back to safety atop the skyscraper, forfeiting the challenge.

Meanwhile, Lioness Jill Scott, who later admitted she had a fear of heights, very casually walked along the plank, and mirrored Charlene, who was facing the ground below as she clung onto the rope. The two women then, after counting down, let go of their ropes, and fell down several metres, screaming in exhilaration.

Babatunde became the first person in the show's history to refuse the challenge, and received some flak from viewers for doing so; even presenters Ant and Dec took a moment to joke with the comedian about his failed attempt. But former contestant Carol Vorderman has lent her support to Babatunde, admitting that she 'screamed' at her telly when she saw the challenge.

Carol appeared on This Morning today (November 7) alongside infamous fellow I'm A Celebrity star Gillian McKeith to discuss the first episode of the brand new series - the first to be filmed in Australia since 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions. After re-watching the clip of Babatunde refusing the challenge, Clifton resident Carol stood up for him, telling presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "I think that was really difficult for him because he said he’s frightened of everything,

"Spiders: why do they have so many legs? So heights is one [of his fears]. I was the first one to walk the plank and I’m telling you it was very shaky.

"The safety harness was dangling away, and I was wobbling. All I could hear was people screaming - I’m not frightened of heights, but that was something else.

"You’ve got to remember Charlene went first, and then... when they withdrew that plank, I screamed. I went 'Ahhh!' watching the telly. Now he's standing there, watching that happening, so now he's got to go out, and I really felt for him. I mean, he’s the only person who’s ever walked backwards on the plank."

Gillian McKeith then chipped in, telling Holly and Phil that she thinks Babatunde is 'in trouble' when it comes the public voting for who they want to see do the Bushtucker Trials until Matt Hancock arrives in camp. It has not yet been confirmed when former Health Secretary Hancock will be entering camp, but Metro.co.uk predicts that, as two new celebrities often arrive on the scene four episodes in, Matt could be making his I'm A Celebrity debut alongside comedian Seann Walsh on Wednesday, November 9.
