I'm A Celebrity bosses forced to scrap emotional surprise due to coronavirus

Plans for surprise reunions on I'm A Celebrity have been scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Having been separated from their families for over a month now, having spent two weeks in isolation before heading into Gwrych Castle for the show, this year's remaining contestants may well be expecting some sort of reunion before Friday's final.

But that won't happen with it being reported that the 'family reunions', which memorably saw 2018 winner Harry Redknapp in tears when wife Sandra unexpectedly joined him in the Australian jungle, won't happen due to COVID-19.

The Sun reports that I'm A Celebrity producers were planning to send a love one of the celebs into the castle before the final but that will no longer happen.

A source told the paper: "ITV were desperate to include the segment as it is always really sweet and heart-warming.

“It’s also a nice lift for the celebs who are fed up after three weeks of rations and being away from family.

“But this year they’ve realised with COVID and restrictions, it’s just too much of a logistical headache, so have had to knock it on the head.”

The surprise appearances from contestants' families not happening may not come as too much of a surprise to viewers as they'll have noticed that none of the evicted stars have been met by a loved one when they left the castle, in stark contrast to Down Under, when celebs were always greeted by someone at the end of the jungle rope bridge.

On Sunday, viewers saw Giovanna Fletcher left devastated when she didn't get to receive a message from home after a cruel challenge twist.
