I'm A Celebrity latest: Holly Willoughby takeover watched by 12.6 million in biggest first week EVER

Holly Willoughby's first year on I'm A Celebrity has smashed ITV records, pulling in an average of over 12 million viewers.

New consolidated figures from the first week of the series, which began on November 18, show that the series is averaging a huge 12.6 million, which is an audience share of 47 per cent, around 1.8million up on last year.

The figures are the highest the jungle reality show has ever attracted over its 18 series, which is, for the first time, being hosted without Ant McPartlin.

When online catchup is added to the figures, the audience average is even more impressive at a staggering 13.1 million.

The launch show enjoyed its highest ratings in five years when it kicked off last month, with 11 million tuning in.

The show peaked at 11.9 million about 30 minutes into the episode with fans eagerly tuning in to watch the celebrities take on the High Top Tower task.

New team: Holly Willoughby and Declan Donnelly (ITV)

Figures were up 750,000 on last year’s launch night. It was also the fourth highest rating kick-off in the show's history.

The new series has seen the likes of DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles, former football manager Harry Redknapp and The Chase star Anne Hegerty pack up and head to the outback.

Redknapp, 71, has become a fan-favourite with his adorable tales of romance with wife Sandra, with bookies tipping the ex-Birmingham gaffer for the crown.

But one guy who won’t be King of the Jungle is Noel Edmonds, who provided one of the reality shocks of the year when he became the first celebrity to be voted off of the show last Friday.

The star said he was “disappointed” to have left first. He was followed by Malique Thompson-Dwyer and Sair Khan.

I’m A Celebrity is on ITV, tonight at 9pm
