I'm a Celeb star's war hero brother says he has 'made family so proud'

The brother of Jordan North has spoken out of the family's pride for the Radio One star.

Sgt Ryan North, 34, who serves in the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, says he is now the brother aching with pride.

Jordan's brother was almost killed in a roadside bomb attack when the Radio DJ was just 16.

It happened in Iraq and was given a bravery award for rescuing injured colleagues from a firefight with the Taliban, in Afghanistan.

Fan favourite Jordan, 30, credits his brother's heroics for inspiring him to make the most of life - including taking part in I'm a Celebrity.

Sgt North says it is now him who is proud, and told Mirror Online : “It is... humbling and makes me proud that he looks at me in this way."

After the incident, Jordan’s mum Wendy spent most of the week at her son’s side in hospital.

His dad Graham, who served in The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment until 2006, was in the Middle East with work.

Ryan says: “I think we all changed a lot during this period. At the time I don’t think any of us noticed it but looking back it definitely brought a strong family unit even closer together.

“My dad was away with the military and my mum has always been the rock for us all and I know we are very thankful for the upbringing we had.”

Jordan has become a fan favourite for I'm a Celebrity viewers, but for Ryan, his cheeky personality is nothing new.

He said: “I’m most proud that Jordan has been himself in there, scared of everything, terrible one liners, bouts of clumsiness topped of with absolute love and affection for those around him.”

Ryan was delighted to be mentioned when Jordan did the Viper Vault trial.

Jordan said on the show: “My brother, who is a paratrooper, said to me no matter how scared or cold you get, to think of your happy place.”

Ryan says: “I’ve never wanted more to put my hand on his shoulder and reassure him it was going to be all right.

"After his stint in the castle he will go from strength to strength and his ability to cope... with whatever pressures come his way will only be increased.

“He has worked so hard to achieve his boyhood dream of ‘Radio 1 DJ’ we need all his fans to now push his dream further so we can crown him King of the Castle. All the family are so proud.”
