I'm A Celeb's Simon 'frightened' after being 'told off' by Arlene during challenge

Dame Arlene Phillips has ended up with egg on her face – and in her hair – after Simon Gregson fluffed his latest I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Our Of Here! trial.

The 78-year-old dance legend was left fuming after her freshly washed locks got doused in yolk and whites after 47-year-old Simon slipped up in a Castle Coin task called Nursery Rhymes on the long-running ITV reality show.

The Castle Coin Challenge saw Simon dressed up as iconic nursery legend Humpty Dumpty and tasked with playing out nursery rhymes on a giant piano mat.

Dame Arlene’s role in the task was to read out the musical notes for Simon to follow – while they also had to fall over a wall and collect a corresponding nursery rhyme book cover.

Disaster struck, however, when Simon misheard the Old MacDonald Had A Farm tune for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – resulting in ex-Strictlty judge Dame Arlene being doused in eggs.

Arlene shouted: “OK I’ve just washed my hair, never mind!”

However, there was no lasting damage to either participant and they were both quickly able to joke about the task fiasco.

Simon said: “I was getting a little bit told off and I have to say, I shut up immediately because I was very frightened.”

Arlene laughed: “He tumbled off the wall, it was so entertaining.”

Simon teased: “This is no ‘yolk’, I can tell you.”

After completing the challenge, Dame Arlene laughed: “I’ve never been hugged by a Humpty Dumpty before.”

And the dance legend went on to joke: “You did a cracking job babes.”

Making their way to the I’m A Celeb Castle Kiosk Cledwyn’s shop with the money they did win from their challenge, the duo were faced with a tough choice between buying mini eggs or gingerbread.

Settling on the mini eggs, the camp was asked to answer a question in order to win the delicious treats.

The question posed for the reward was: “According to a survey, what percentage of couples say that they equally split household chores and childcare. A: 33% or B: 45%?”

Fortunately, the camp guessed correctly with 33% – however there was almost further disaster as Dame Arlene narrowly avoided dropping the mini eggs all over the floor.

Meanwhile, fellow contestant and sporting legend David Ginola found himself receiving quite the education on British confectionary when he was confronted with the mini eggs when Dame Arlene and Simon returned to camp with their spoils.

The French sporting legend was confused by the treats and had no idea what they were – but was thrilled to discover they are: “Chocolat!”

Before entering the show last month, David said he was most looking forward to losing some weight while shivering away inside the Gwrych Castle in Wales.

He said in a pre-entrance interview: "rice and beans is perfect for me as I have put on six kilos over the past three months and I think it will be interesting to see if I can lose six kilos in three weeks!"

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on ITV every night at 9pm.
