I'm A Celeb's Scarlette Douglas tells Matt Hancock Covid rule-break was 'slap in face'

I'm A Celebrity star Scarlette Douglas was quick to tell Matt Hancock how she and the other campmates were feeling, the morning after his tense arrival.

Hancock debuted on the ITV series on Wednesday night, and it did not go down well with viewers or the other stars on the show.

As the cast struggled to hide their true feelings , Boy George contemplated leaving the jungle - with viewers quickly predicting a mass exit was on the cards.

In scenes on Thursday night, Scarlette decided to speak to Matt face-to-face about her own feelings, and the "anger and upset" felt by others.

It wasn't entirely clear whether the TV star was talking about the campmates, or the UK public and viewers watching at home.

But she did seem to hint there was some unrest in camp, as she said "emotions were running high".

Scarlette told the disgraced Tory MP: "I want to say this morning as I don’t like to leave things in. A lot of things that happened with you during the times, which does make it difficult because people are angry and upset emotions are running high.

"We’re not going to ever exclude anyone. We want to make sure that everyone’s a family, but if it does feel tough for the first few days, I’m sure you understand why."

Hancock replied and said: "That’s very good of you to say that."

In the Bush Telegraph, he added: "Scarlette was very open and also very thoughtful and that’s really what it’s all about. Being able to talk about things, whether they’re things you’re proud of, or things you’re not proud of."

Scarlette then continued: "It was hard, a lot of people had difficult times… and then to see that people that had kind of set the rules had then broken them I think was a big slap in the face for everyone."

He responded: "Look, I know how people felt. That’s why I resigned, right? I know how people felt and so good on you for saying that, thank you."

It follows the drama surrounding his arrival on the ITV show, which led to predictions of a mass walkout by fans.

On Wednesday, Boy George confessed he was considering leaving the jungle, with one campmate doing her best to stop him.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, he became emotional as he said: "I don't really know what to do with my feelings. You know, today was obviously quite emotional for me.

"I don't know what it's going to be like, I actually don't really know if I want to be here."

Sue Cleaver soon encouraged him to stay, while she too shared her view on the matter - clearly not keen on Hancock.

She said: "Just sleep on it tonight. Look, why he came in and what he's doing here, it's not our responsibility and it's not for us to take on."

Sue later said in the Bush Telegraph: "George was having a bit of a moment. I think if I'm honest that most of us are sort of feeling it's a bit of a very strange situation to be in."

Now, viewers are predicting several cast members could end up leaving the series following ITV signing up the disgraced Tory MP.

Taking to Twitter, they guessed drama and tension was on the cards for sure - but many also wondered if a mass walkout could happen.

One viewer said: "I got a funny feeling [Hancock] is gonna to have walk, before they have a mass walkout."

Another tweeted: "George is going to quit. I’m calling it now!"

A third viewer added: "I think many will walk out," as a fourth wrote: "I reckon Boy George will walk out."

Meanwhile, a fith fan said: "This could backfire very badly on ITV and Ant & Dec. People do not want to be entertained by Matt Hancock and the celebrities do not want their reputations to be tarnished by playing games with him. I wonder how they would have handled a walkout."

I'm A Celebrity airs every night at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
