I'm A Celeb's Richard Madeley returns for final as fans call for him to join 2022 series

Richard Madeley, 65, made a return of sorts to I'm A Celebrity 2021 on Sunday night, weeks after he was forced to quit the ITV series.

Viewers watching at home took to social media following the star's cameo, begging the TV presenter to sign up to next year's series of the reality TV show.

After producers pleaded with him to appear in the jungle for years, 2021 was finally the year the former This Morning presenter agreed to a stint on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

But within days of being in the Welsh castle with his fellow campmates, show favourite Richard was out.

The Good Morning Britain host took a turn in the night just under a week into the show, and had to be taken to hospital for precaution.

While Richard was given a clean bill of health, and he later explained he believed he was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion, he was not allowed to return due to strict Covid rules and the line-up forming a bubble.

By visiting the hospital, Richard left the bubble and was unable to return - something he said he understood.

After appearing on Sunday night's live final, virtually via zoom, viewers took the chance to ask Richard to give them a little more screen time by signing up for next year's series.

"Justice for Richard!!! I hope he comes back next year when the show is back in Australia. It was unfortunate how he left. #ImaCeleb @richardm56," one fan campaigned on Twitter.

Another tweeted the star directly, asking: "@richardm56 please tell me, you are going back on im a celeb next year?"

Not only did some viewers want to see Richard return, they also wanted a return to the show's original home - Australia.

"Found it hard to get in to this years I’m a Celebrity series since Richard Madeley left. I definitely think the show isn’t the same by not being in Australia - hope it makes a return there next year," one Richard fan mused during Sunday night's show.

Another joked that the broadcaster looked disinterested in the final festivities, quipping: "#ImACeleb Richard Madeley is thinking 'I don't give a f**k who wins I've got my 200k' "

After his exit, Richard returned to the castle studio to speak with hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly about his early exit.

But Sunday night was the first time he was shown on screen with his fellow campmates, since leaving them last month.

While none of the former campmates were in the studio with finalists Danny Miller, Frankie Bridge and Simon Gregson, again for Covid reasons, they did appear on screens.

Normally the campmates are in the studio watching the winner be crowned, but due to leaving the camp bubble this could not happen for the second year running.

I'm A Celebrity is now available to watch on ITV Hub.
