I'm A Celeb's Matt Hancock says girlfriend Gina will meet him on bridge after cheating scandal

Former Health Secretary and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here' s newest arrival, Matt Hancock, caused quite the stir in camp when he went into the jungle on Wednesday, November 9, and was deemed a "brave man" for entering the show by many following his controversial decision to sign up for the show.

But the 44-year-old politician, who resigned from the role in government earlier this year following a cheating scandal that involved his aide - in which he broke the Covid-19 rules his own party set - has now said that, while it is no excuse, he "fell in love".

The father-of-three was forced to resign after pictures and video footage of him sharing a kiss with his aide, Gina Coladangelo, were publicly shared in June 2021. In tonight's episode, which aired on ITV on Thursday, November 10, the west Suffolk politican confirmed the pair were still together, but told fellow campmate and comedian Babatúndé Aléshé how the repercussions of his actions have been.

After Babatúndé asked Matt: “How have things been?”, Matt replied: “It was really tough.” Giving him tough love, the comedian said bluntly: “Because you messed up.”

Taking this in, the politician replied: “I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously.”

Addressing the footage that was at the time, Babatúndé said whilst chuckling: “You didn’t just ‘fall in love’, you were grabbing booty bruv!” To which Matt responded: “Oh give over.”

He added: “That’s been hard, I obviously brought it on myself, so yeah… so it’s been tough.”

Diving deeper into Matt's not-so-new relationship status, Babatúndé asked: “Are you still with the lady?”

“With Gina? Yeah very much so, yeah, totally," Matt replied. "That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge.”

Giving the tarnished MP the benefit of the doubt, Babatúndé said: “Look man, I don’t judge you bruv. I may take the piss out of you.”

Matt laughed: “I don’t mind that," before adding: "It's all part of life, isn't it?"

Babatúndé continued: "I'm not going to lie. I didn't expect a man like you to be grabbing booty, bruv."

Matt retorted: "Oh, don't!"

Matt Hancock entered the jungle officially on Wednesday, November 9 alongside comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Seann Walsh, and was met with a barrage of questioning from his fellow campmates.

Scarlette Douglas asked: "Why did you decide to come in?” Replying, Matt said: "Why? Because, all politicians are known - and me in particular - for being in a very sort of strict way of being. Which is just not actually how we are.” Scarlette then asked: “How would you say you were?" And he answered: “More human than that.”

She then told him: “I’m looking forward to getting to know you outside of everything else. That’s going to be good. Just be your authentic self.”

Meanwhile, Loose Women's Charlene White pulled him aside, and asked him why he wanted to do the show, to which he replied: “Because there’s, honest truth, is because there’s so few ways in which politicians can show that we’re human beings, so I just thought it would be good to do that. I’ve got a sense of adventure.”
