I'm a Celeb's Ant and Dec to present at 30th Bafta Cymru Awards

TV presenting stars Ant & Dec will make a special appearance at this weekend's 30th Bafta Cymru Awards, just weeks before returning to Wales for the new series of I'm a Celebrity.

The pair, who will appear at the online ceremony this Sunday, October 24, will present an award at the milestone event and will be amongst good company in the line-up of presenters.

Also presenting awards are Cardiff actress, Rakie Ayola and Matthew Rhys, star of The Post, The Americans and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Rakie is herself a Bafta Television Award winner, as earlier this year she won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Gee Walker in the BBC One drama, Anthony.

Ant & Dec will return later this autumn to present the ITV show, I'm a Celebrity, from Wales' Gwrych Castle for a second year, as Covid restrictions prevented the show from returning to Australia.

Nominees at the awards include Sky Atlantic's Gangs of London with eight nods, The Pembrokeshire Murders with seven nominations, His Dark Materials has five and It's a Sin gets three.

Acting talent nominated includes Michael Sheen, Keith Allen, Alexandria Riley, Callum Scott Howells and Judi Dench.

The ceremony will be presented by The One Show host Alex Jones, who will make her return to the BBC show's sofa tonight, and she wished those nominated, good luck.

She said: "The Welsh valleys are becoming more like the Hollywood Hills these days, with international actors like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Hardy and Dame Judi Dench living and working here alongside Welsh talent like Michael Sheen, Luke Evans and Russell T Davies. "Despite the setbacks of Covid, Welsh crews have risen to the challenge and made some of the world’s best TV in a very difficult year. Good luck to all the nominees."

Rakie Ayola, who also starred as the crisp-loving detective in Welsh-made The Pact, also added: ‘What I love about this year’s nominations is not only is the standard very high, which it always is, but these are shows that are being watched internationally. TV in Wales is amazing right now. No one can get enough of Wales, it’s great. And the work is exemplary.”

You can tune into the 30th Bafta Cymru Awards on Sunday, October 24 from 7pm on Bafta's social channels.
