I'm A Celeb's Adam Woodyatt keen to show he's nothing like EastEnders' Ian Beale

Former EastEnders star Michelle Collins, who famously played Cindy Beale on the BBC soap, has revealed all on her former co-star Adam Woodyatt's reasoning for taking part in ITV's I'm A Celebrity.

While Adam, who plays Ian Beale on the soap, no doubt has many motives behind doing the famous series hosted by Ant and Dec, Michelle explained her friend was keen to show a different side to him.

Having played Ian on the soap since it began in 1985, Adam recently bowed out of the role for a break - but recent scenes on I'm A Celeb have hinted he might not return.

Now, Michelle has explained that Adam is quite keen on the public seeing he is very different to his character.

While Ian is a soap legend, his character is hit and miss with viewers due to his antics and bad decisions.

He's always been pretty selfish, putting his businesses before his family and those in Walford, and he has even dropped his own relatives in it with the police over the years.

Often at war with the Mitchells, he crossed a line when he played a part in 13-year-old Dennis Rickman's death, leading to his mother and Ian's longest friend Sharon Watts trying to kill him.

But Adam is nothing like his alter-ego, who he has played for a huge 36 years, and he's apparently keen to show viewers this by appearing in the I'm A Celebrity castle.

Speaking on Lorraine on Wednesday morning, his good friend Michelle revealed all - and also said how he was really there for her following the sad loss of her mother earlier this year.

Michelle's mother passed away in April this year following a two-year battle with cancer, and Adam was incredibly supportive of his friend.

She said: "Is he behaving himself? Is he coming across okay? Because I kind of do worry about him, being my ex-husband and everything!"

Lorraine then said Adam had been a good pal to her especially during tough times, to which she replied: "Yeah. Weirdly Adam and I have got closer over the last 10 years actually.

"When we worked together we were a bit.... you know, and [now I'm very close to him].

"Mum sadly died at the end of April. He sent me a beautiful rose which has now really grown and blossomed. He was really caring and thoughtful, and we both talked a lot during the pandemic actually.

"I did a series of monologues and Adam did a monologue for me as well."

On Adam wanting to show a different side to him, she went on: "It is tough for Adam because he is so keen for everyone to think he's not like his character, so I hope people will see a funnier side to Adam in there. I'm proud of him."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
