I'm A Celeb's Adam Woodyatt fights back tears as he talks 'new start' after split

Adam Woodyatt fought back the tears as he spoke about his "new start" on I'm A Celebrity after splitting from his wife.

The EastEnders actor had been married to his wife Beverley Sharp since 1998 and they share two grown-up children together - Jessica and Sam - but they decided to split back in the summer of 2019.

Adam - best known for starring in the BBC One soap as Ian Beale for over three decades - reflected on having a "lot of things going on" as he spoke about his journey on I'm A Celebrity with hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. He was being interview by the pair as he made his exit alongside Matty Lee in a double eviction tonight.

Asked if his time in the castle has helped him turn his life around, he began, "A bit. I looked at it as..." before pausing and trying not to tear up. Composing himself, he added: "Ooh you got me you bugger.

"I'd looked at it as if it was going to be a new start. There's a lot of stuff still going on. Mentally, I've sorted myself out. My head was in the right place going in there which is why I've loved it so much."

Adam admitted he was nervous about going on the show as he's spent his lifetime reading off scripts.

"Yeah because I haven't got a script. I've spent 36 years with a script," he said, "I'm not like Simon. He's just naturally funny, I need somebody to play off which was Simon. We kind of knew each other from before and it helped - but everyone has been amazing."

During his time in the show, Adam decided to take on a lot of tasks and chores and he explained why he shunned his usual "lazy persona" to take on as many jobs as possible.

"Normally, I'm lazy," he said, "If I can sit there on my phone and do nothing for three hours, I will take that option, but in there, there's no other distractions so you've got to keep your mind active, so I did everything."

However, Adam said he deliberately stayed away from the cooking as to not get involved in the rows and drama between the likes of Naughty Boy and Kadeena Cox over the cooking.
