Ant and Dec respond to I'm A Celebrity fans slamming Roman Kemp and James Haskell's 'unfair' Bushtucker trial

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Here! may only be about to enter its second week - but already we've seen more tears, critters and bickering than we can shake a stick at.

Mixing things up a little this year, ITV bosses decided to combine two of its most popular shows, introducing a Love Island-themed Bushtucker Trial for the very first time.

Eight of the twelve celebs sauntered down to the clearing, to find a fire pit, hot tub and bar modelled around the ITV2 show's glamorous villa.

And while the tasks were entertaining (who doesn't want to see Ian Wright gag and Caitlyn Jenner plunge her face into a bowl of fish guts?), there was one element of the trial that left viewers far from happy.

After a rather intimate challenge which saw Adele Roberts, Cliff Parisi, James Haskell and Roman Kemp pass testicles along a line with their mouths, James and Roman were tasked with lying in a bed full of snakes.

In true I'm A Celeb fashion, they also had to put their hands in tanks full of various creatures; James was in charge of unscrewing the last remaining stars, while Roman had to then screw them back on his side.

As if that wasn't testing enough, they only had 90 seconds to complete the challenge.

Naturally, the pair lost and fans were quick to express their rage on Twitter.

One user wrote: "I’m lay in bed FUMING at I’m a celeb. I know, you know & THEY know that last trial was not fair at all."

Another added: "[sic] I have to say I absolutely love I’m a celeb but that last trial with James and roman was one of the most unfair trials I have ever seen. There was no way 1.30mins was enough time. Really feel for the 3 celebs that didn’t get their dinner. It’s not like they didn’t try."

A third commented: "[sic] I’d like to complaint to I’m A Celeb , that was well not enough time for James & Roman to do that last trial."

Part of the frustration was the fact that Ian (who has had issues with the Jungle diet) and newbies Cliff and Andy Whyment forfeited their roast dinner, while the other campmates would feast at the Jungle Diner.

Since, presenters Ant and Dec have responded to viewers to defend Sunday night's trial, writing: "The stand ins did it when we tested it," along with a shrug Emoji.

Last night's episode also saw Caitlyn Jenner open up about her decision to appear on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine following her transition.

"For me, this was a big f*** you to the millions and millions of people out there that had said terrible things about me," she said. "And it just came out and it just shocked them."

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
