I'm A Celeb crew 'refuse to work in castle at night' over 'horrifying noises and figures'

I'm A Celebrity crew members are 'refusing' to work in certain areas of Gwrych Castle at night over the historic building is haunted, it has been reported.

Staff working on location at the reality show claim to have witnessed 'shadowy figures' and 'horrifying noises' coming from the 200 year old building after dark, according to The Sun.

While others say they have seen ghostly faces appear in windows at some areas of the crumbling castle where the ten celebs are currently holed up.

Legend has it that the 19th Century fortress is haunted by the ghosts of its former residents.

Some believers claim the Countess of Dundonald 'patrols' the castle at night as revenge after her surviving husband destroyed her life's memory when she died suddenly at 64 in 1924.

The spooky goings on are said to have caused a stir among the ITV crew working in north Wales.

An insider told The Sun: "People thought they saw a figure at one of the windows a couple of nights ago — and that spot has been pretty much off limits ever since."

Another source described the castle as 'utterly terrifying' at night.

“Several of the crew are completely horror-stricken and don’t want to go up to the castle," they claimed.

“There are lots of lights on the main sets but there are also many dark areas behind the scenes and some noises are extremely spooky.

“Even staff who don’t believe in that sort of thing are reluctant to go up to some of parts that were supposed to be used for running equipment and camera positions."

The source told the paper that ITV bosses might have to get involved if the problem continues.

While some of the crew might not be enjoying I'm A Celeb's temporary home this year, so far viewers have been loving the location switch-up.

The show launched to record viewing figures on Sunday night - with a peak audience of 12 million tuning in to see Ant and Dec host the show from Wales for the very first time.

ITV say that this was an increase of a million viewers (+10%) compared with last year. It was the second biggest launch for the show since 2013 and the fifth biggest launch episode for the show ever.

Mirror Online has contacted ITV for comment.
