‘I’m 36 and this is the first I’m hearing of this’: Cleaner walks into female public restroom. Then she reveals how you’re using the metal boxes wrong

If you’ve ever been inside a female public restroom, you may have noticed a metal box called the receptacle next to the toilet. When it’s that time of the month, you dump the feminine hygiene product into it and move on with your day. However, one cleaner demonstrates what she believes is the correct way to dispose of feminine products in a clip with more than 676,000 views.

While standing in a stall inside a female public bathroom, TikTok creator and cleaner Esha (@meshakesha84) has a public service announcement for women.

“OK, so the ones who don’t know this little thing,” she says, flipping the camera to unveil the silver metal sanitary unit box hanging on the wall. “For the females, listen y’all.”

With blue disposable gloves, she opens the box and pulls out a brown paper bag. “Take this out, right?” the content creator instructs, opening the bag.  “Put your pad in here.” Afterward, the content creator closes it and tosses it into the small trash can. “You take it with you and you throw it in the trash,” Esha explains.

“What the [expletive]?” she concludes.

She urges females in the text overlay to not leave their hygiene products in the bathroom, “PSA: ALL FEMALES TAKE THAT PAD/TAMPON with you, sincerely cleaners.”

What did viewers think?

Many disagreed in the comments section. Some claimed they’ve never heard of this before.

“I’m 36 and this is the first I’m hearing of this,” one viewer commented.

“I didn’t know that. I always wrap my tampons up regardless but i thought the extra bags were to refill the bin,” another stated.

Moreover, most argued that the bag in the receptacles were mini trash cans for feminine products.

“Respectfully, that’s not the norm. Toss until it’s full,” one commenter remarked.

“If that’s the case, there should be a sign that says that. AND more than one bag,” a second noted.

“Umm usually it’s already stuffed so I’m not taking everyone’s period trash out,” a third said.

Is this how you dispose of feminine hygiene products?

Because these units are a breeding ground for hepatitis B and C, Cleaning & Maintenance Management states that custodial employees empty the bin daily, wearing gloves. Customer shouldn’t fish in them bare-handed to retrieve their soiled sanitary napkin. Instead, the receptacles should be used as a garbage can, as Senzicare explains:

  1. Wrap your used pad/tampon in toilet paper or new wrapper
  2. Discard it in the nearest trash can, whether it’s the sanitary unit or a regular one
  3. Wash your hands
  4. Never flush them down the toilet. This can clog the drain pipes
@meshakesha84 Just in case your mom didn’t teach you you take the brown bag and throw it in the trash afterwards you don’t let it stay in the metal box ! Plz and thank you !!!! #females #cleantok #fyp ♬ original sound – meshakesha
