'I love this game' - Liverpool fans all say same thing as Solskjaer penalty dig at Klopp backfires

Liverpool were handed an early boost in the Premier League title race on Saturday afternoon after Manchester United slumped to a home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

Defender Kortney Hause scored the game's only goal to earn Dean Smith's side all three points at Old Trafford, but things could have ended differently for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

The Red Devils were awarded a stoppage-time penalty, which was uncharacteristically blazed over the bar by Bruno Fernandes.

This miss comes one day after comments made by Solskjaer regarding a lack of penalties being given to United, which he appeared to suggest was caused by Jurgen Klopp.

"We just have to hope we get what we deserve," Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference. "We should have had three penalties in the last two games.

"There was a certain manager last year who was starting to worry about us getting penalties and after that it seems like the decisions are more difficult to give.

"I've seen a big, big difference since then. We just have to leave it to the refs and hopefully they'll make the right calls very soon."

Solskjaer's wish was granted at Old Trafford, though Liverpool supporters could not help but see the funny side of things as United failed to convert their spot-kick:

Liverpool now have the opportunity to open up a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table when taking on Brentford at 5:30pm.

It was not only the United result that went in the favour of the Reds, with Chelsea also losing 1-0 to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in the other early kick-off.
