'I love playing football, that's just me' - Bristol City youngster takes home EFL award

A Bristol City youngster was a winner at the EFL Awards last night.

Libby Sims took home the CEFA (Community & Education Football Alliance) Player of the Season award at a ceremony in London.

The 18-year-old is in her second year of the Bristol City Community Trust’s BTEC level 3 extended diploma in sport.

Alongside her studies at Ashton Gate, Libby plays both 11-a-side football and futsal.

The CEFA League, which was introduced at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, is an official EFL competition and is open to all of those enrolled on post-16 education programmes with their club’s community organisation.

The competition provides playing opportunities for young people, regardless of ability, as well as the opportunity to participate in a football competition governed professionally by the EFL.

The youngster impressed the panel of judges with her commitment to both football and her studies. She also juggles a cleaning job at the same time.

Speaking after collecting her award from BBC 5 Live presenter and EFL on Quest host Colin Murray, Libby said: "It's amazing. I was very nervous to get up in front of all these people, I'm new to this, but to be recognised is brilliant.

"I can't put it into words, I don't know how to sum it up. I love playing football, that's just me."

The 18-year-old hopes to play for Bristol City Women in the future.
